This condition can occur in many different forms, which include hips that are underdeveloped, or “immature”, hips with instability, or hips that are dislocated. Hip dysplasia can be detected in newborn babies or in older children and teenagers.
Babies can be evaluated with an ultrasound, performed during your office visit. Treatment can be initiated with pavlik harness, specially designed for babies with hip dysplasia. Surgery can be avoided for many patients but is an option when needed.
